The FDA has called for the heartburn drug Zantac to be pulled from the market immediately. Millions of people take heartburn medications in Cornelius to try to help their symptoms. Yet another medication, this time the very popular drug Zantac, has been pulled off the market because of health risks.

This time the FDA has found levels of a cancer-linked ingredient, N-nitrosodimethylamine or NDMA, which poses a risk to public health enough that they are banning the medication for good. This is great news for our personal health and I am proud of the FDA for stepping up and making this decision.

While most doctors prescribe antacids to lower stomach acid for heartburn and acid reflux, keep in mind that the real culprit may be that your stomach acid is already too low. Sufficient stomach acid is necessary to protect the body from pathogens; activate pepsin which is a protein our body uses to help with digestion; digests proteins; activates intrinsic factor and helps make vitamin B12, and helps absorb vitamins and minerals.

When stomach acid is too low your body cannot digest food thoroughly. The food in the stomach begins to rot and putrefy, the small intestine attempts to reject it, and the rotten food moves back up into the esophagus. While the food is not acidic enough for the small intestine, it is far too acidic for the esophagus.
