Dr. Akiba Green was born and raised in Gainesville, Florida. While he has been a chiropractic patient since his parents first had his spine checked at the young age of 2, it wasn’t until he was involved in intercollegiate sports rowing for the University of Florida Crew Team, that he truly experienced chiropractic care. After several months of grueling competition, he developed a painful knee problem known as “tendonitis.” The pain in his right knee was so intense that he had difficulty bending his leg or walking normal without excrutiating pain. He even had difficulty driving his car. The team athletic trainer referred him to an orthopedic surgeon where he considered cortisone shots and even surgery, which he was told were his only options.
Exhausted, a friend of his suggested he try chiropractic. Even though he had been a patient on and off his whole life, it wasn’t something he ever considered for sports injuries. He consulted his chiropractor, who performed a thorough examination, including x-rays of his spine, and then “adjusted” his lower back and knee. The adjustment didn’t hurt at all, in fact he started feeling relief almost immediately and after just a few visits he was able to return to practice and started to compete again. Because of the care he received from his chiropractor, he was able to help his team compete at the Dad Vail Regatta, which was considered their National Championship race!
Because of the true benefit that Dr. Green received from chiropractic as a patient, he made the decision to become a doctor of chiropractic and dedicate his life to helping others accomplish a better vision of health…one free from pain or disease.
Dr. Green lives in the Lake Norman Area with his wife Alissa, daughter Addison and dog Sasha.
